1975-1984 mean number of fatal airline crashes was 2.8 per year. In 1985 there were four fatal airline crashes. (a) Justify the use of the Poisson model. (b) Based on the historical average, what was the probability of at least four fatal crashes? (c) Of fewer than four crashes? (d) In your opinion, how unusual was 1985?
