Were the victims of the Air France crash wearing their life jackets?

I ask because if the life preservers were on, that'd mean they had advance warning of the crash landing. Does that make sense?

1. Planes do not carry life jackets perse, they use the seat cushions as flotation devices.
2. If it was mechanical or electronic failure due to a lightning strike as predicted, they probably indeed had advanced warning. But, I don't recall life preservers having been on any plane I've ever traveled in. The directions usually state to use the detachable seat cushion. At any rate, life jackets would not have saved them. Hitting the water at that speed and from that altitude is akin to hitting cement.

Yes, I understand what you are saying - if bodies are found to be wearing life jackets then that would indeed indication that the passengers were talked through the emergency procedure and they knew in advance of the impending disaster. I suspect that as the authorities investigate the crash and more bodies are recovered, they will look at this theory. I suspect that we will not know much about the investigation until it is completed.
4. They didn't even have their seat belts on. That should tell you how unexpected this accident was. When there is a problem, the buckle up your seat belts sign will light up well in advance before anything does go wrong. Many Air France pilots have speculated that the plane hit some major turbulence, lost control and then collided with a smaller plane that may have been in the vicinity.

9. I saw, unfortunately, one of the bodies and he/she had an orange looking vest on. It looked just like a life jacket. I would rather they have not known what was ahead. Tragic.
