Changing personal injury lawyer?

Hello, I suffered a serious injury and currently dissatisfied with my lawyer. For one, I have not even had a chance to speak with a lawyer. It is always some assistant and it has been about two months. They seem to not care much about my property damage and leaving me to handle that myself. I just don't like the way they have handled things. My question. What are the issues of payment when changing lawyers? I know I will have to pay something to the first lawyer and they both would be working on a contingency basis. Anyone know how this works?
