What does bodily injury peding mean?

I was involved in a minor accident, it turned out to be my fault sadly, it was a rainy day and my car would not stop and I ended up hitting someone. I got a letter in the mail saying that property damage had been resolve, but the bodily injury claim was still pending. What do they mean by this? Will it take long for the process to settle?

  1. Bodily injury means that the fellow that you hit has medical bills and the insurance company has not settled. It could mean that he is suing. It's not something you need to worry about, unless he claims more damages than the amount of insurance that you have. For example: If he is complaining of a sprained ankle, no problem. If he is claiming a permanently disabled ankle and a handicap due to the accident...well, that's a bit more serious. Property damage, by the way, would be damage to car, damage to that person's clothing, etc.... Good luck.
  2. Hiya: "Pending" means the bodily injury claim has not yet resolved. How long it takes to resolve depends on the injured person. In most states there is a statute of limitations in which a time frame is established for a person to settle their claim or file suit to protect the statute after that time frame has expired. Sometimes people want to settle quickly so they can get immediate money......sometimes they want to draw it out and treat as much as possible in order to get MORE money. Alas, it doesn't always work out in their favor when they do that but c'est la vie. Hopefully that answers your question. ~jifr!
  3. Bodily injury would also include injury to passengers in the car(s) that may have been hit, if more than one car was involved. Property damage would also include almost anything the first car hit, like a house, or a wall, or a tree that was injured or damaged by the collision. Sometimes there are several victims sustaining injury. The courts usually get involved in personal injury losses.
  4. This probably means someone was hurt in this accident. This person could still be dealing with pain. Check out the resource below for bodily injury liability definition. I think you should call and talk with your insurance agent on company to seek additional information.
