Do you have a different perceptive on this?
I heard about Fire Fighters in many different cities in the US are now trying to charge for their services at car crashes. It would be billed to the motorist at fault or their insurance company. The fees would range from $450.00- $2,100.00. My understanding is citizens already pay for these services through taxes, so wouldn't it be basicly double charging and wouldn't it make automobile insurance go up, cause we all know that's not high enough. I'm trying to find out if anyone has anyother perspectives on this because right now all I see is it hurting citizens not helping Barb- You would still be paying taxes for these services- the taxes you pay are not going to go away when and if they enforce these charges Stevie: here you go- some of the news articles are old- but they just started talking about it in my state, so in doing my research I found other cities that at one time or another have talked about it http://www.fireengineering.com/news/newsArticleDisplay.html?id=148950 http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2007/04/homewood_may_charge_for_police.html http://www.cleveland.com/budgetcrisis/index.ssf?/budgetcrisis/more/108358171621050.html

- nope, yours is pretty good
- The fleecing of America, and this is just another example. Fortunately where I live, the fire department is made up of volunteers. They do get perks though, and some people whine about it. Me, I'm ok with there weight rooms, pretty halls and hot tubs, they keep the fire stations and the trucks very clean on their own time, and they fight fires and what not on their own time. I think they also get some kind of benefit package, but I'm ok with that also, they never ask for any thing in return from the victims they help.
- Most car accidents are caused by a driver behaving foolishly. The driver was either negligent, a speeder, drunk, on the phone or some other form of reckless driving. Why should the taxpayer have to pay the bill for this nitwits bad behavior. Let HIS insurance pay for the aid and assistance he gets. Let HIS insurance rates go through the roof. Maybe it might make him think the next time he gets behind the wheel of a car. He should also be responsible for paying the Paramedics expenses for responding. I'm all for it - think it is a great idea....
- I must say, maybe I'm just out of the loop, but this sounds like an "urban legion" or joke of some sort. The type of folks who put their lives on the line (both paid and volunteer) do not ask for extra compensation. It strikes me as unseemly to even suggest such a thing about the people you depend upon when you find yourself in need. I cannot help but ask just where you came came upon this type of accusation. Could you please be more specific so folks could weigh in with a more informed response? Blessings...
- some fire departments routinely charge for some of there services you never see these charges because they charge the insurance company. fire departments that run the ambulance service charges for that service.
