  1. Yes and you spelled it wrong, it's Qantas and i was just talking about tht last night...wierd.
  2. I believe they had trouble with one in the late eighties.Don't think any one was killed though.
  3. That is correct no accidents Qantas are excellent. QANTAS!!!!!!!!
  4. I believe so. I flew with them a few years ago, and would rate them as the top airline.
  5. The full name is QANTAS: Queensland And Northern Territory Aerial Services. I've just looked on the aviation statistics website - it lists every airline and all of their recorded accidents. Qantas have had 3 accidents in their 90 years history, but there have been no deaths: http://aviation-safety.net/database/operator/airline.php?var=4842 Look in the database and select airlines and you can look up any other airline and see how their safety record compares http://aviation-safety.net/database/operator/. Here's another good website that shows the safest airlines in each continent: http://www.geocities.com/khlim777_my/ashowsafe1.htm#Which%20is%20the%20safest%20Airline?. The airlines with a 0.00 rating are the safest. You can see Qantas has a 0.00 rating.
  6. They have had several of their planes crash. They have never technically had a 'jet' crash but in between 1927 and 1951 they had a total of eight crashes resulting in 62 deaths. Most of these were during WWII. They also wrote off a Super Contellation aircraft in 1960 with no fatalities. Also they had one of their 747s heavily damaged in a runway excursion and it (reportedly) cost more to repair the aircraft that it would have to buy a new one, but it prevented a hull-loss accident from being registered. From a safety point of view (without all the nit picking) Qantas has the best safety culture in the industry and their ideas are widely implemented (with varying degrees of success) in other companies.
  7. yes its true

  9. christ hope you havn't jinxed them!
  10. no its not true. It is often claimed, most notably in the 1988 movie Rain Man, that Qantas has never had a fatal accident.[56] However, this statement only relates to the fact that the company has never lost a jet airliner. Between 1927 and 1951, Qantas had eight fatal accidents with the loss of 62 people. Half of these accidents occurred during World War II, when the Qantas aircraft were operating on behalf of the Royal Australian Air Force. On 7 April 1949, Avro Lancastrian VH-EAS swung on landing at Dubbo during a training flight, causing the gear to collapse. The aircraft was destroyed by fire.[57] On 24 August 1960, Super Constellation VH-EAC crashed on take off at Mauritius en route to the Cocos Islands. Take off was aborted, the aircraft ran off the runway, and was destroyed by fire.[58] On 23 September 1999, a Boeing 747-400 (VH-OJH), callsign Qantas Flight 1, overran the runway by 220 metres while landing in a severe rainstorm at Bangkok.[59] The aircraft ended up in a golf course. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau criticised numerous inadequacies in Qantas' operational and training processes.[60] On April 21, 2000, a 747-300 VH-EBW was damaged when its landing gear collapsed while taxiing at Rome
